The one sport in which you really need to know how to jump higher is basketball. More than any other sport, basketball players rely on their vertical leap to grab rebounds, shoot baskets and dunk the ball. Many basketball players are blessed with the natural ability of jumping higher, while others have the genetics which makes them much taller, and they are able to tower over the competition. The best basketball players often have a good combination of the two. Michael Jordan, who some consider to be the greatest basketball player of all time, was not particularly tall for a basketball player, is about average height for the sport. But he is a guy who worked extremely hard not only at basic basketball mechanics like shooting and dribbling, he also spent a lot of time learning how to jump higher.
Michael was not only known for his eye popping dunking abilities and three point shooting, he was also a sound defender and rebounder. He was able to defend and rebound well due to his vertical leap. Jumping higher is not something that generally comes naturally. Often the highest jumpers are the ones who have spent years properly toning the right muscles in their legs to increase their vertical. Those who are born with a natural jumping ability would be wise to learn how to properly train their muscles. Since they already have a great vertical leap, learning how to jump higher would make them completely dominant in the game of basketball.
